Diving medicine

It is a paramount requirement that all diving activities at NUI are performed in a manner that is safe for the divers and personnel outside the chamber, and that does not cause short or long-term health damage.
During manned diving in the NUI chamber system a health service will be established, specially adapted for the current dive. As a rule this will consist of two functions: one medically responsible and one physician on duty.
The health service takes part in the planning, implementation and experience analysis of manned dives. This is accomplished by the health service actively attending meetings and safety studies (HAZOP, SJA etc.) and preparing plans for the dives in question. In addition, it ensures that a medical preparedness for dives has been established, and that hygienic matters are satisfactory.
More information about diving medicine is found on our Norwegian web pages.
