From Theory to Reality: Understanding Offshore Diving Operations
The NUI Diving Awareness Course provides a practical introduction to commercial and offshore diving operations. Designed for personnel involved in planning, managing, supporting, or interfacing with diving projects, the course combines technical knowledge with hands-on experience in a safe and controlled environment.
Rather than simply explaining how diving operations work, the programme allows participants to experience key elements of professional diving firsthand, creating a deeper understanding of the operational, technical, and human factors involved.

Experience Offshore Diving Firsthand
A key part of the course is direct exposure to operational diving and hyperbaric environments.
Participants will conduct a practical dive using full offshore diving equipment, experience pressurisation in an operational hyperbaric chamber, and gain valuable insight into the working conditions, limitations, and challenges faced by professional divers. Optional overnight chamber stays further enhance the understanding of saturation diving environments.
This practical approach transforms theoretical concepts into real-world understanding.

Comprehensive and Industry-Relevant Training
The course covers the fundamentals of diving theory and physiology, diving equipment and hyperbaric systems, offshore diving operations, safety management, legislation, and industry standards.
Delivered by experienced NUI personnel, the programme focuses on how diving operations are planned, controlled, and executed safely, while providing participants with a clear understanding of risk management, operational decision-making, and safety barriers.
As an independent competence centre, NUI delivers training based on industry best practice, regulatory requirements, and decades of operational experience across the offshore and subsea sectors.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion, participants will have a realistic understanding of diver working conditions, operational limitations, and the safety requirements governing offshore diving. They will be better equipped to plan, support, and evaluate diving operations while gaining practical insight into how technical, human, and operational factors interact in the field.
The result is greater confidence, improved decision-making, and a stronger foundation for working safely and effectively with offshore diving projects.
