NUI Demonstrates Safe and Efficient SPHL Mating Trial

On 25 February 2026, NUI carried out a complete mating trial of the DSV Seven Atlantic's port SPHL (Self-Propelled Hyperbaric Lifeboat) at our hyperbaric reception facility in Bergen. The trial involved the port SPHL, an Oceanwide 6085 unit configured for 18 divers and 4 crew, mated to our Deck Decompression Chamber DDC#6 via transfer trunk. Independent third-party verification was carried out by Synfaring AS.

Trial Outcome

The operation involved precise lifting, accurate alignment, and a controlled pressure test to 220 msw, during which the SPHL performed with full stability and zero leakage throughout the hold period. The trunk was pressurised to 220.1 msw and held for a one-hour stabilisation period, concluding at 218.4 msw with no leaks detected throughout.

This successful trial demonstrates NUI's ability to deliver fast, safe, independent, and high-quality hyperbaric testing services for the offshore diving industry.

Key success factors were the seamless operational coordination and clear communication between all involved teams, ensuring a safe and efficient execution from start to finish. We appreciate the strong

Operational Observations and Continuous Improvement

As with any complex hyperbaric operation, the trial provided valuable opportunities to further strengthen our procedures and ways of working. Observations were made across several areas, including pre-operational planning, crane and rigging coordination, lifting operations, equipment ergonomics, and instrumentation. All findings have been reviewed and are being acted upon, with relevant updates already incorporated into our internal procedures. This continuous improvement process is central to how NUI maintains the highest standards of safety and operational quality.

Conclusion

Each trial presents an opportunity to strengthen our procedures and ways of working, and this one was no exception. We are proud to provide safe and reliable hyperbaric operations in the North Sea and beyond, and remain committed to incorporating these lessons into our operations to ensure the highest standards of safety and efficiency in hyperbaric diver transfer operations.

We at NUI are proud to provide safe and reliable hyperbaric operations in the North Sea and beyond.

We once again thank Synfaring AS for their professional independent verification, and the crew of Seven Atlantic and Crane Norway for their cooperation throughout the trial.
